In this first step in making a career decision you need to assess yourself.

A deep understanding of your strengths, weaknesses, values, and interests. Therefore, ask yourself the following questions:

  • What are my strengths?
  • What are my weaknesses?
  • What are my values?
  • What are my interests?

Having answered these questions, you are now aware of your personal skills, strengths and weakness. In this way, you will be guided what would be your course of action in achieving what you want.

Step 2: Identify and Research Options

The next step is to identify and research your options. You need to explore different career paths and find out what they entail. You can do this by:

  • Researching online
  • Talking to people in the field
  • Shadowing professionals
  • Taking career assessments

Once you have identified your options, research them thoroughly to determine which one is the best fit for you.

Step 3: Evaluate Options

After researching your options, evaluate them based on the following criteria:

  • Job outlook
  • Salary
  • Work-life balance
  • Education and training required
  • Location

Test each option. Based on the following options, what is best for you? This entirely depends on you.

Step 4: Make a Wise Decision

This is the critical part. Making decisions in career is hardest one. I have this life-changing decision in career change in 2013 which gave me the best opportunities in life.

This is true if you are unsure of your goals and values. Now that you screened your alternatives and criteria, it is time to make a decision. You have to choose that resembles your interest or passion alongside with your personal attributes.

Step 5: Create a Plan

Making a career decision is not the end itself. After making a decision, its time to create a strategy to achieve your career goals. This should include:

  • Education and training required
  • Skills you need to develop
  • Networking opportunities
  • Job search strategies

Setting up your plan and be focus on it is one way to achieve your goals. Not only that, you can achieve in less of the time depending on your strategy.

Step 6: Take Action

Procrastination is what kills our ambition. We cannot move forward unless we make one step at a time. The moment you have your plans. Time to implement it. Be committed to take action.

Step 7: Evaluate Your Progress

Last step involves fairly easy way.
